H & M Acres is a small family owned and operated farm located in Southeastern Indiana. In 2012 Kevin, my husband, wanted to get our girls into 4H - they decided on showing goats! We researched and ultimately chose Nigerian Dwarfs. Nigerian Dwarfs were relatively small (for a goat) and easier for our daughters to handle. They were an awesome fit! We picked the girls (Helmstead Minis HO Charismatic & Helmstead Minis E Spring Forward) up in March at 2 weeks old (bottle babies) & entered them in their first show in April! At that show we picked up our 2 week old wether, Helmstead Minis Qorky, who placed as Grand Champion at 6 mos old! The following spring we added our blue eyed buck, Helmstead Minis SF Rainier.
In addition to the goats, we added 2 Landseers (Newfoundland) puppies! Sivvey (grey & white) & Polar Ice (black & white). Born on Halloween 2012 - our girls began showing them for 4H the following spring. They showed well in obedience training. While they were the youngest puppies there, they were also the BIGGEST! In April 2013 we purchased our Newfie male, Sully. What a sweetheart!
Our final 4H project is the chickens! As usual, 20 Cornish Rock cross will join us in the spring. The layers from last spring are giving us LOTS of eggs!
In 2013, Kevin rescued two pot belly pig babies (Piglet & Pumba) from a local flea market. Frisky & Arctic Cat (solid white), house cats, round out our furry friends!
